DigitalOcean vs Webdock

A full cloud ecosystem or a complete, production-ready VPS out of the box? An honest side-by-side to help you pick what fits, and actually ship

Choose DigitalOcean if you…

  • Rely on Kubernetes, Terraform, or doctl
  • Need global infrastructure across NA, Asia, or AU
  • Want managed databases, object storage, or serverless
  • Prefer per-second billing for short-lived workloads

Choose Webdock if you…

  • Want backups, SSL, WordPress & email from day one
  • Need predictable monthly costs without add-ons
  • Run production without stitching 4–5 services together
  • Are EU-based and want full data sovereignty

Background

Who are they?

DigitalOcean

Est. 2011 · New York, USA

Founded in New York in 2011 with a simple idea: cloud infrastructure that didn't take a week to figure out. Shipped SSD-based Droplets in 2012, went fully SSD by 2013, and IPO'd on the NYSE in March 2021. Today they run 16 data centers across 9 regions, serving developers, startups, and small businesses.

Webdock

Est. 2019 · Denmark

Born from frustration, not a business plan. After years of hosting client sites at Danish ad agencies, moving through shared, VPS, bare metal, and AWS, the team spent close to a year building a better platform before taking a single paying customer. Launched late 2019, opened their own renewable-powered data center on Funen Island in 2024. Still bootstrapped, still a small team.

What each provider actually sells

DigitalOcean offers a full cloud catalog. Webdock deliberately stays focused on VPS, with security infrastructure built in.

List prices only, checked 28 July 2026. The estimate uses AWS EC2 m7i on-demand, EBS gp3 and internet egress rates in eu-central-1, converted at 0.92 EUR/USD and billed over 730 hours. Committed-use discounts, reserved capacity, support plans, and other services are not included. Actual costs vary with usage.

Droplet types, OS & hardware

Both run Linux only. The difference is what's standard vs. what requires a Premium tier.
