Background
Who are they?
DigitalOcean
Est. 2011 · New York, USA
Founded in New York in 2011 with a simple idea: cloud infrastructure that didn't take a week to figure out. Shipped SSD-based Droplets in 2012, went fully SSD by 2013, and IPO'd on the NYSE in March 2021. Today they run 16 data centers across 9 regions, serving developers, startups, and small businesses.
Webdock
Est. 2019 · Denmark
Born from frustration, not a business plan. After years of hosting client sites at Danish ad agencies, moving through shared, VPS, bare metal, and AWS, the team spent close to a year building a better platform before taking a single paying customer. Launched late 2019, opened their own renewable-powered data center on Funen Island in 2024. Still bootstrapped, still a small team.
What each provider actually sells
DigitalOcean offers a full cloud catalog. Webdock deliberately stays focused on VPS, with security infrastructure built in.

Both catalogs are intentional, DigitalOcean built outward from Droplets; Webdock chose depth over breadth.
Cost comparison
What the same server costs elsewhere
Move the sliders to match your workload. Egress is where the gap opens up.
Webdock, flat monthly
€34
Custom VPS rates
1 TB included, then €2.50/TB, €10 of transfer
Typical Hyperscaler Estimate
€553
€129 compute, €18 storage
€406 data transfer out
Over a year that is €6,220 more on a typical hyperscaler for the same specification.
List prices only, checked 28 July 2026. The estimate uses AWS EC2 m7i on-demand, EBS gp3 and internet egress rates in eu-central-1, converted at 0.92 EUR/USD and billed over 730 hours. Committed-use discounts, reserved capacity, support plans, and other services are not included. Actual costs vary with usage.
Droplet types, OS & hardware
Both run Linux only. The difference is what's standard vs. what requires a Premium tier.

Key difference: DigitalOcean splits Basic, General Purpose, CPU-Optimized, and Memory-Optimized across standard and Premium subtiers, NVMe and dedicated CPU live behind Premium. Webdock ships NVMe, dedicated resources, and 1 Gbps on every plan.
Network, security & bundled tools
Both cover the basics. The gap widens once you look past DDoS and firewalls.
