Pricing

Pricing and what a full setup really costs

Advertised rates tell you the floor, not the ceiling. Both providers structure billing differently, and those differences affect your real monthly spend more than the plan tiers suggest. OVH offers two payment options: monthly or annual. Committing to 12 months upfront gets you the lower rate. Webdock runs entirely on flat monthly billing, prorated from your first day. Neither provider requires a contract.

Webdock's flat monthly billing, prorated from your first day, removes a variable that OVH's annual commitment can't account for: what happens when your budget changes. The Custom Profile builder lets you pick exact CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth and pay for what you use. The control panel, automated backups and SSL are included at every price point, and Postmark, ImprovMX and WordPress tools unlock on €5.99+ plans, so the full setup cost stays predictable.

Webdock's billing model removes a variable that OVH's annual commitment can't account for: what happens when your budget changes. You delete the server and stop paying the following month. No term to wait out, no locked-in rate that no longer fits your project.

The included tools change the real cost calculation more than the base server price suggests. A control panel, automated backups with a three-week history, and transactional email via Postmark all ship with the server. You don't need four vendor accounts and four monthly invoices before your project serves a single request. Webdock's Custom Profile builder also means you stop paying for resources you don't use.

Set the exact thread count, RAM, and storage your application needs right now. When traffic grows, you adjust individual specs rather than upgrading to a full tier. That precision compounds over time, especially on projects that run for years rather than months.

The bottom line: OVH's raw specs are strong, and the unlimited traffic on most plans is a genuine advantage. But a server alone isn't a working setup. Once you account for the tools Webdock bundles by default, the total cost of running a production environment at Webdock stays well below what OVH charges once everything is added up.

OVHcloud's Angle

OVHcloud is a French provider with formal certifications (ISO 27001, SOC I & II, PCI DSS) that carry weight in regulated industries like healthcare and finance. Their footprint spans multiple jurisdictions, France, the rest of the EU, North America, and APAC, which suits global enterprises but means data residency depends on which region you deploy in.

Webdock's Angle

Webdock's open source hypervisor stack delivers enterprise-grade isolation with transparent, predictable pricing , no opaque enterprise quotes, BYOIP from day one, and a real SLA included rather than locked behind a premium support tier. Everything runs from a single Danish/EU jurisdiction , GDPR by design with no extraterritorial exposure, and a team that actually answers within minutes.

Infrastructure & Security

Infrastructure and security: what you get by default

Both providers give you DDoS protection, configurable firewalls, and Let's Encrypt SSL out of the box. OVHcloud's included backup keeps a single daily copy for 24 hours. Webdock provides daily and weekly snapshots across three types, with no add-on required. The services Webdock bundles on top (Postmark, ImprovMX, and WordPress tooling) run $50 to $100 combined per month when sourced separately. Once you factor those in, the cost picture shifts from what base server prices suggest.

Server Management

Server management: OVHcloud Manager vs. Webdock Control Panel

Both providers ship a control panel. What they cover inside that panel is where things split.

OVHcloud Manager handles the infrastructure side well: reboots, OS installs, snapshots, and network configuration all sit in one place. App management is a separate layer, though. You need a cPanel or Plesk license to get there, which adds to your monthly bill before you've done anything with the server itself. Webdock covers both layers in a single panel at no extra cost. The tradeoff is OS variety. If your stack runs on Windows Server, BSD, or Fedora, OVHcloud is the only option here. Webdock is Linux only, full stop.

Support

How does the support fare

OVHcloud structures its support across four paid tiers: Standard, Premium, Business, and Enterprise. Standard ships free with every plan. The rows below reflect the Standard tier unless noted.

OVHcloud's Standard tier, as described by the company, is intended for "autonomous customers" running non-critical workloads. Faster phone and ticket access is available only to Premium or Business tier subscribers. Webdock keeps live chat and email open to all customers around the clock, with no tier gates. The team answering your chat manages the same servers in Denmark, so there's no hand-off between support and infrastructure.

Background

Two providers at very different scales

OVHcloud and Webdock both sell VPS infrastructure, but they got there from completely different places. Their origin stories explain what each provider values now and who they're actually building for.

Who Is OVHcloud

Est. 1999 · Roubaix, France

Octave Klaba founded OVH on November 2, 1999, in Roubaix, France. He was a computer science student at ICAM in Lille, running the first server out of his family's garage. The Klaba family backed the venture with roughly 25,000 French francs. The name stood for "On Vous Héberge," French for "We host you."

OVH opened its first owned facility in Paris in 2003, and by 2004, it had expanded to Poland and Spain. The company rebranded as OVHcloud in 2016 to match its shift toward cloud services. By October 2021, OVHcloud was listed on Euronext Paris, raising €400 million at a market capitalization of €3.48 billion. Today, they run 44 data centers across four continents and employ over 3,000 people.

What Is Webdock

Est. 2019 · Denmark

Webdock started in 2019 in Denmark. The founders spent years running client sites at Danish advertising agencies since 2012, and the same problems kept appearing across every platform: billing surprises, support that went quiet when things broke, and servers that couldn't keep up. They built their own instead.

A full year went into infrastructure before they took on a single customer. No outside money, fully bootstrapped. By 2024, they opened a data center on Funen Island, built and owned by their own seven-person team, running on green electricity.

Scale is not the same as value

OVH operates 44 data centers across four continents. That scale works well for teams with global reach or strict compliance requirements, such as ISO 27001 or PCI DSS certification. Their unlimited traffic on most plans is a real advantage, too.

Webdock takes a different route. One facility in Denmark, owned outright, has bundled tools that cut out four or five separate vendor invoices each month. The Custom Profile builder lets you pay for what your application actually needs, not the nearest fixed tier.

Scale gets you geography. Value gets you a working production environment without the bill creep.
